ASParker’s Career Coaching Program

Headshot small #13Where do you start?

Alvah S Parker is ASparker.  She can help you find the spark within you that enables you to enjoy your work and your life.  Her passion is to help people to be happy at work.

I tailor my program to each client but here are some of the elements of my coaching program.

Self-Awareness

This program begins with an array of assessments. You will learn:

  • What your values are – what is most important to you in your life.
  • With what parts of your life you a feeling somewhat dissatisfied.
  • What your strengths are.
  • What are your skills.
  • What motivates you.
  • What your behavior says to others
  • How your communication style impacts your relationships with others.

As we review each assessment you will learn more about yourself and what is important to you.  The assessments are a good way to get you thinking about who you are.  Most people never get a chance to do this and at times can’t explain what they are feeling and why they are feeling it. While assessments are not 100% accurate, they a great way to start a coaching conversation. We’ll discard the parts of assessments that don’t ring true. By asking the right questions I can help you to become more aware of who you are and what you want.  Self-Awareness is the first step in having Emotional Intelligence, even more important than IQ in today’s workplace.

Vision – What do you want?

What do you see yourself doing in 5 years, 10 years and beyond?  We’ll do some visioning exercises that will help you determine what your future looks like.  Depending on your natural preference you could be creating a vision board, talking to your future self, or even writing your own obituary reviewing the life you had.  All the exercises are designed to help you see and feel the life and work that makes you happy.  Finally we will do some visualizations.  In all of this you will find some clues as to where that spark is for you.  Some clients can identify what the spark is at this step.

Network

As you begin the journey of finding a career/job/business that is right for you, you’ll need support, people who can help you, people who care about you, people who are in fields that interest you etc.  What is the best way to keep track of your network of people?  How do you build on the network you already have.  How do you nurture your network? You will answer these questions and design a tracking system that will be useful to you throughout your career.

What makes you stand out from others?  How are you unique?

Stand out in front of the crowd

We are all unique.  As you begin to explore who you are what can you say about yourself that makes you different from others doing the same work?  Having trouble with this?  Go back to your strengths, values, behavioral assessment to determine this.  What have you learned about yourself?  By digging deeper you will find that (those) special something(s) you offer to the world. Often by finding this a client’s spark will be ignited.

Where are you now?

Is your current job a good fit for you?  Does it fit your skills, strengths, behavioral style, values, What do you like about the job?  What do you dislike about the job?  Do you hate anything about it?

If you are out of work then was your last job a good fit for you?  What did you like about the job?  What did you dislike about it?  Was there anything you hated?

If you own your own business/practice, is that practice or business using your unique talents?  Are you feeling good about what you are doing?

Choose your path.

If you are settled in a job that is right for you, work on an elevator speech to introduce yourself so you are ready for your next career move. What would you say?  As a final step we’ll develop your elevator speech and a profile of yourself for others.

If you are unhappy at your current position and want to improve your situation either by changing jobs or making your current job better, then you may opt to continue coaching to uncover more ways to develop a strategy.

If it is time for you to find a new career  then I will be happy to work with you on discovering what that new career looks like. You will identify the work you were meant to do?  It will be work that makes you happy and feel fulfilled. I am a certified facilitator of Laura Berman Fortgang’s “Now What – 90 Days to a new Life Direction”  program   I’d love to help you find that new career.

It may also be that at the end of the coaching program you feel that you need to try to incorporate all that you learned about yourself into the work you are currently doing.  Many of my clients take a hiatus until they are ready to make a transition.
