Ten Tips to Achieve Your Goals

achieve your goalsWe are at the beginning of the second half of the year.  How are you doing on the goals (resolutions) you set in January?  Are you where you want to be?  If you are concerned about being on track, here are 10 tips to help you move forward so that by year-end you achieve the goals you wanted.

  1. Make sure you are committed to your goals.

Be sure these are goals you sincerely want to accomplish not something you feel you “should” do. Being committed to your goals also means you believe you can achieve your goals.  Visualize that achievement frequently.

  1. Write your goals down on a paper and hang them up where you can see them daily.

By keeping focused on what is important to you,  you will know how to prioritize your daily activities.  By writing your goals down on paper you are committing to the goals.

  1. Tell a friend, colleague or family member about your goals.

By telling someone else you are now accountable to someone for the result.  It would be embarrassing to admit that you have not achieved the goals you are committed to.

  1. Hire a coach to help you reach your goals quickly.

A coach will keep you focused and will help you to remove any barriers to achieving your goal.  A coach can detect lack of commitment and will help you to establish realistic and achievable goals.

  1. Write a slogan or create a picture that captures your goals.

Everyone has some times when productivity wanes.  Learn different techniques to recharge yourself.  One example is to use a slogan or picture to re-energize yourself. Make a list of techniques that work for you.  Refer to your list when you feel stuck.

  1. Track your progress.

How are you measuring yourself?  Make sure that you are making progress by regularly (weekly) reviewing the numbers.

  1. If you get stuck ask yourself how staying stuck serves you?

If you can’t move then you are getting a benefit from staying there.  What is the benefit? Is it really a benefit?  A coach can help you to answer these questions.

  1. Enjoy the process.

Make the whole journey worthwhile. It isn’t just about the achievement of the goal. Working toward your goal needs to be enjoyable for you to want to continue.  Find ways to achieve your goal that are easy for you to do and that you enjoy doing.

  1.  Keep yourself physically and mentally healthy by taking good care of yourself.

Eat nourishing food; get plenty of rest and exercise.  This will help you to keep a positive attitude and focus on your goals.

  1. Celebrate and reward yourself at milestones.

Make sure to give yourself credit for making progress.  Some goals will have several milestones because they are complex.  Be sure to give yourself credit for taking the right steps.  Even baby steps count.  If you have involved friends and family in your goal include them in the celebration.
