My mother at 100 years old

My mother turned 100 years old on January 3, 2014.  She has lived through an amazing technological change during those years.  She remembers the first cars, telephones, radios, TV and computers!  WOW. DSC_0334 (2)

I feel very lucky to have had my mother with me for so long. We are blessed that she remains mentally sound even though she has many physical problems.  The most difficult one right now is that she has lost her sight.  She can no longer read or play duplicate bridge, two of her passions.  Still she is amazingly cheerful and resilient.  She has learned to enjoy the talking books the library sends and once in a while a few women get together to play bridge with her.  They have to use large cards and tell her what they put on the table.

Thought you might enjoy seeing a picture of the two of us at her party in Florida on January 3rd.  We had invited 40 people to come and most did except my children and grandchildren who were flying from the New York area and had their flights cancelled because of the snow storm on January 2nd.

Still it is remarkable that at 100 years old my mother still had 30 friends and family come to celebrate with her. We also had another party in Massachusetts in August so that her Massachusetts area friends could share in the celebration too.  My mother has friends across many generations.  None is as old as she.
